Detection of Cancer
|
|
Government and Non-Government Agencies and organizations in
Bangladesh are too much occupied with the communicable diseases and
Non-Communicable Diseases like Cancer get lower priority. Since
cancer is a silent killer NCD it really gets least priority, although
World Health Organization has designated non-communicable diseases,
including cancer, as a priority area. With early detection,
there is a great chance that curative treatment will be successful,
particularly for cancers of the breast, cervix, mouth, larynx, colon,
rectum and skin. As such early detection of cancer is very important. |

Screening for
Breast and Cervical Cancer
|
|
In Bangladesh situation, people comes for treatment only at an
advanced stage when it becomes difficult to manage the deadly
diseases like cancer. This is particularly true of the rural woman.
As such it is very important to create facilities for early detection of
cancer through sending Mobile Cancer Detection Teams mainly for
detection of breast and cervical cancer. Under this programme Mobile
Cancer Detection Team comprising doctors, nurses and technicians
supported by necessary equipments and examination devices visit the
selected spots both in urban and rural areas for examination of the women for breast and cervical
cancer.

Breast
Cancer Support Services
(BCSS) |
|
The diagnosis of breast cancer has a profound impact on the patients
and their families. The objective of the BCSS is to provide
psychological, emotional and social support to the women diagnosed
with breast cancer whether undergone any treatment or preparing for
the same and covers pre-diagnosis stage. The services is for the
patients and their families and aimed to develop their ability to
maintain close interpersonal relations with the family and friends.
Many people believe that breast cancer is caused by events or
conditions such as knocks or strains, infections, heredity, divine
retribution or punishment, stress, smoking or diet, oral
contraceptive use and hormone replacement therapy. But there is not
always evidence to support that they are true. Awareness against
these beliefs is important as they help women with their
psychological need to make sense of the situation and gain some
control and assist them in coping with their fears. Support service
is also needed for treatment options. This service is available from
the Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre (AMCH).

Cancer
Registry
|
|
Incidence of cancer in Bangladesh is very high. Yet there is no
Cancer Registry in the country with relevant data about the age, sex,
marital status and location of the cancer patients, different types
of cancers, diagnostic & treatment status and survival &
mortality rate of the cancer patients which are, however, very
important for formulating any plan or programme of prevention and
treatment of cancers at the national and global level.
The
Ahsania Mission Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre has started preparation
of Bangladesh Cancer Registry with the objective of systematically
collecting analyzing and maintaining data about the cancer patients
reporting in the Hospitals and Clinics in the country and to supply
such data to the concerned authorities within the country and outside
including the UN Agencies for furtherance of the cause of education,
prevention, control and better management of cancer.
The scheme of data collection includes establishing contact with
the noted Hospitals, Clinics and Medical Colleges where there are
facilities for cancer detection & treatment and to identify one
person (Cancer Focal Point) in each of such Hospitals, Clinics and
Medical Colleges and give orientation on filling up of the Schedule
of Cancer Registry and send the same to the HQ of the Cancer Registry
located in the Cancer Detection and Treatment Centre. For the Cancer
Registry Form please Click here.
